Media phenomenon at welterweight (up to 77kg.), Jorge masvidal has a confirmed return to the octagon to face Gilbert Durinho No. UFC 287 April 8th. Apparently, however, the Brazilian was not his first option. In an interview with the podcast 'The MMA Hour', the North American declared that he wanted to face Conor McGregor and admits frustration that his wishes were not fulfilled.
“I want Conor, but Conor doesn’t want me. He's annoying, you know? He just doesn't want to, every time the UFC brings up the subject, it changes. I do not know why. I think I'm bigger and faster than him. And we both know I hit harder than he did. So I understand. It's not what's best for him or his brand, you know? Not only am I going to beat the hell out of him, but I'm going to do it in a way that's not good for his brand,” Masvidal said.

Despite revealing that Conor was his main focus, 'Jesus das Ruas' tried to explain his choice and praise Gilbert Durinho. The North American says his preference was for a 'complete fighter' like the Brazilian.
“I didn't want to fight another heavy wrestling oriented individual, just because those were my last three, four fights. I wanted to fight someone different, like a grappler or a striker. Not necessarily someone who fights hard, you know? So I thought Gilbert was the best choice. Someone who comes to fight, whether on the ground, is trying to submit. In his striking, he is trying to finish. It’s going to be a good fight and that’s what I want,” he concluded.
Masvidal is coming off three consecutive defeats and has not played since March 2022. The 'Jesus of the Streets', as he is known, has a record of 35 positive results and 16 negative results in his career.
