The Brazilian Athletic Commission's indecision on the end of exemptions for Testosterone Replacement Treatment (TRT) was short-lived. Just under 24 hours after stating, in an interview with the “MMA Fighting” website, that the entity had not yet officially taken a position on the ban on the treatment, following the recent decision of the Nevada Athletic Commission, the medical director of CABMMA Dr. Márcio Tannure stated that Brazil will follow the regulations adopted in Nevada and ban exemptions for the TRT. The revelation was made during an interview with the “SporTV News” program, this Friday morning (28).

“We have already been discussing this here at the Brazilian Athletic Commission for some time, not today, and as we use the Nevada athletic commission as our mirror, we decided to also make the same decision here in Brazil and no longer allow the use of TRT for no athlete”, said Tannure, who also commented on the time needed to “cleanse” traces of synthetic testosterone from the body. “This depends from organism to organism and athlete to athlete. This may take three to six months in your body, but it is a very individual thing. There are substances that can remain in your body within a year of stopping use,” he added.

Dr. Márcio Tannure also revealed that unlike Nevada, where the decision to ban TRT releases comes into force immediately, an athlete can still be authorized to use the treatment in Brazil. This is the veteran Dan Henderson, which applied its release before the entity's final decision. Hendo will face the Brazilian Mauritius Shogun in the main fight of UFC Fight Night 39, on March 23, in Natal (RN). A final decision on Henderson's status must be made public no later than two weeks before the event.
