Stephen Thompson was one of the highlights of UFC 170, held last Saturday (22). The North American, who has a respected resume in kickboxing, was one of those awarded the event's “Performance of the Night” award when he knocked out Robert whittaker in the first round, achieving his ninth MMA victory.

Thompson stated that the secret to victory was discovering the loopholes presented by his opponent, winner of the reality show The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes, which featured Australian and English athletes.

“I felt really comfortable. Everything seemed very clear. He hit me a few times with his jabs, and I saw that I needed to raise my guard and defend his jab. Once I did that, I was able to fit my combinations and hit him with that right hand”, he assessed, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Junkie”.

After achieving his fourth victory in the last five fights, three of which were consecutive, Thompson is not thinking about names for his next welterweight fight. “I've been in MMA for four years, so I'm still learning. But I will fight anyone who steps into the octagon with me. That's up to my manager and Dana White. The UFC will find out who my next opponent will be,” he clarified.
