The UFC ranking, launched in 2013, was a way that the event found to organize athletes into divisions and guide the matchmaking of fights, although the list is not a definitive criterion for decisions. The initiative, however, does not please the featherweight champion. José Aldo, second in the weight-for-weight ranking, who criticized the official classification.

“This ranking is full of sausages. It's no use for shit, I don't even care about it. For me the best of all weights is the Cain Velazquez, because he lines everyone up. It's the heavyweight, just as it would be if the Junior Gypsy was the champion. If you put me against him, the guy will hit me. If it's against anyone. So for me this is what works. This is the best of all, the biggest and best that beats everyone. I think this ranking story is more for fans and the media who like to pay attention to this”, said Aldo, during a press conference held in Rio de Janeiro this Thursday (20).

The official UFC ranking is formed based on votes from specialized journalists from around the world. The list is updated whenever there is an event. Within the categories, the champion is always out of voting and the other fighters are listed from first to fifteenth position. In addition, there is also the weight-for-weight ratio, which does not take categories into account. Thus, the organization's fifteen best athletes are listed regardless of their divisions. In this case, unlike the categories, the champions become eligible.
