The controversy involving Vitor belfort and his testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), a subject extensively mentioned in the months leading up to his fight against Chris Weidman, made the Brazilian present a suggestion for the UFC. According to the next middleweight title challenger, Weidman should also undergo more rigorous anti-doping tests.
On May 24th, Belfort will have his first fight in Las Vegas since starting treatment. Precisely because there are doubts as to whether the use of TRT will be authorized, the Brazilian made himself available to take any type of exam if the athletic commission deems it necessary.
However, Belfort thinks it's not fair that only he is tested before the fight. “I don't believe [that Weidman sweats steroids], but people are giving too much importance to a treatment that I do religiously with medical support. To be fair, my opponent should also have blood tests during his training,” he said, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”.
The fight between Belfort and Weidman, valid for the middleweight belt, will be the main attraction of UFC 173. This will be the second defense of the American, who is coming off two victories over the former champion, Anderson Silva.
