This is because the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which will regulate the fight, has already made it clear that it will be difficult to grant Belfort clearance, mainly due to the fact that the Rio native had already been caught in an anti-doping test after a fight against Dan Henderson in Vegas. For UFC president Dana White, however, the fact of not getting approval to use the TRT in combat will not prevent Vitor from taking part in the main fight of UFC 173.
“It would be a problem if he pulls out of the fight because he can’t get the release. The government will say if Vitor belfort may or may not do this. And if they say he can't (use TRT), then he can't. And he's going to fight in Vegas and he's going to fight with Chris Weidman. Period”, said Dana in a conversation with the press in Las Vegas last week, according to the website “BJPenn.com”.
After three consecutive victories in 2013, all by knockout in the first round, and five consecutive victories as a middleweight, Vitor belfort qualified for his second title fight in the under-84 kg category, the first time the Rio native ended up defeated by Anderson Silva in 2011. On May 24, in Las Vegas (USA), Belfort faces the North American Chris Weidman in the main fight of UFC 173.
