After the victory over Gegard Mousasi at UFC Fight Night 36, held last Saturday (15) in Jaraguá do Sul (SC), the Brazilian Lyoto Machida rose to third place in the UFC middleweight rankings. The new update to the list, published this Monday (17), presented the Brazilian in the position previously occupied by Ronaldo Jacare – who also won the event, but ended up falling to fourth place.

Lyoto is now only behind Anderson Silva e Vitor belfort in the category up to 84 kg, in addition, of course, to the champion Chris Weidman. Even defeated in the night, Gegard Mousasi, Lyoto's opponent, also debuted in the middleweight division rankings in twelfth position. Francis Carmont, who was surpassed by Ronaldo Jacare, fell to ninth place, giving up eighth place to North American Tim Kennedy.

Another important change in the most recent update concerns the weight-by-weight ranking. In the list independent of the athletes' category, the Brazilian Renan Barao moved up one position and is now in third place, behind only José Aldo e Jon Jones. Barão had already gained two positions a few weeks ago, after UFC 169 – when he defeated Urijah faber and retained the bantamweight title. Another Brazilian who also gained a position without fighting was Mauritius Shogun. The native of Curitiba gained sixth place among the light heavyweights of Dan Henderson, his opponent on March 23, at the UFC in Natal.
