Owners of two of the greatest reigns in UFC history, Geroges St. Pierre and Anderson Silva have always been the subject of speculation about a possible fight between them. Their situation today, however, suggests that this should not happen. Anderson is recovering from the fracture suffered in the rematch against Chris Weidman, his second consecutive defeat in Ultimate after more than seven years of unbeaten streak, and St. Pierre retired from MMA indefinitely in December last year. Even so, the Canadian does not rule out facing Spider in the future.

“There is always a possibility for everything. You see, some want to fight me for my name, others for the money. I would fight against Anderson Silva. I would even fight against Brock Lesnar, as long as it was a fair fight for both. If you're going to fight a heavyweight, let it happen in a rational way. I'm not afraid of anyone, but I'm not stupid either (laughs). A lot of people think that a fight determines who is the toughest, but that's not the case for me. I see things in a professional and intelligent way”, said St. Pierre, in an interview with the website of the “Combate” channel, in Jaraguá do Sul (SC), where he will be Francis Carmont’s corner at UFC Fight Night 36.

GSP also believes that the Brazilian will fully recover from the fracture suffered at UFC 168. “I think Anderson Silva Coming back has more to do with your mental strength than your physical condition. I spoke to several doctors and they told me that, no matter how serious the injury was, if it had happened in a joint, complete healing would be very unlikely, because there are injured ligaments and cartilage. The way the fracture happened, it is certain that healing will be complete. What he will have to have is the mental strength to not be afraid to kick again. The leg will be as solid as it always was, but if your mind makes you hesitate, that will be a problem. I know because when I injured my knee, it was the same thing. I don't want to give Anderson advice, because he is much more experienced than me, but I would tell him to test himself in training. If you throw really strong kicks in training, the fear of doing the same in a fight will disappear. You need to get this block out of your head if you want to keep fighting”, he warned.

At 32, Georges St Pierre has a record of 25 wins and just two losses. The last time the Canadian left the Octagon defeated was in 2007, in the surprising defeat to Matt Serra at UFC 69. Furthermore, GSP was the winner of the only fight between two Ultimate champions in history, beating B.J. Penn at UFC 94 . In his last fight before his indefinite retirement from MMA, St. Pierre won John hendricks by unanimous decision of the judges in the main fight of UFC 167, an event that marked the organization's 20th anniversary. The result was widely questioned by the public, some members of the press and even president Dana White spoke out against the judges' decision. In preparation for the fight, Dana and Georges had already publicly exchanged barbs following the Canadian's questions about Ultimate's anti-doping policy.
