Many athletes could take advantage of the fact that an opponent has persistently refused to fight against them to promote themselves, with blunt statements and jabs at their rival. But not Junior Gypsy. Given the revelation, by UFC president Dana White, that alistair overeem would be avoiding a fight against Cigano, the Brazilian remained indifferent and even stated that he already has other plans for his future.
“I don’t care about this guy. I don't care what happens to him now. I'm here to fight anyone in the heavyweight division. That's how it is. He's a good opponent, but now I don't think this fight will happen again”, said Cigano, in an interview with the “MMA Junkie” website. Asked if he preferred Stipe Miocic or Josh Barnett as his next opponent, the Brazilian didn't hesitate. “I prefer Miocic. I think Miocic is going through a very good moment in his career, so it could be a good fight for the people”, he concluded.
Junior dos Santos' idea pleased President Dana White, who commented on the Brazilian's statement during a meeting with the press in the United States. “Yeah, I like this confrontation (Cigano and Miocic) too. It won’t be Alistair (Overeem), I tell you that”, said the director, also according to “MMA Junkie”. Junior Gypsy has been out of action since the defeat to Cain Velazquez in the last chapter of the trilogy between the two for the heavyweight belt, at UFC 166, in October last year. Currently, the Brazilian is ranked first in the 120 kg division.
