Daniel Cormier was devastated by the news that his UFC 170 opponent, Rashad evans, was injured and will not be able to compete. The former Strikeforce GP champion hopes, with less than two weeks to go until the event, that the organization can find a replacement so that his participation is not removed from the card.

Cormier, a former member of the heavyweight division, plans to make his light heavyweight debut on February 22nd. Precisely because of the hard work of cutting weight, the fighter does not want his training to be in vain.

"Is very sad. I had to do a lot of different things in this training because of the weight, as I needed to lose weight in a healthy way to maintain good conditioning. It was much more than just training to fight. It’s a completely different situation”, lamented Cormier, in an interview with the North American website MMA Fighting.

“The UFC told me that it will be difficult to find someone at such short notice. I hope I can find an opponent. I would fight Chael [Sonnen] in a heartbeat. I would fight with Anthony Johnson In a flash. Or, if there is a heavyweight, I can fight again at heavyweight. I don't want all this training to be in vain. I killed myself at the gym and spent ten weeks away from my family. I haven't seen my girlfriend and children because I'm training very hard”, concluded the fighter.

Although Cormier wants to fight at UFC 170, the Canadian website Sportsnet found that his fight against Evans will be continued, taking place on April 26, at UFC 172.
