Combating piracy in broadcasting pay-per-view is one of the main flags raised by the UFC, which spends a good part of the US$620 (around R$1,48 million) annually invested in lobbying to encourage North American politicians to make anti-piracy laws stricter. This Tuesday (11), the organization won a major victory in the courts and deactivated a website streaming of its PPV events, “www.cagewatcher.eu”. The announcement was made by Ultimate through an official note published on its website.

“As part of the ongoing initiative against online piracy, Zuffa, owner of the Ultimate Fighting Championship organization, successfully removed and seized the records of www.cagewatcher.eu, a website that illegally streamed two pay-per-view events from the UFC. The UFC obtained details of the streaming site's user base, including email addresses, IP addresses, usernames and information relating to people who watched pirated UFC events, including UFC 169. Chat transcripts were also recovered. -site chat. Using this data, the UFC will work with the Lonstein Law Office to prosecute identified offenders,” says an excerpt from the note.

PUBLICITY:

The statement is bad news for Internet users who watched any type of content transmitted by the website in question, as the organization assured that it will continue its “vigorous persecution” of users who watch content transmitted via illegal streaming. This is not the first time that the UFC has fought a legal battle against online broadcast sites, which reproduce their content illegally. In recent years, the event has had a series of obstacles with the websites FirstRowSports, Justin.tv and Greenfeedz, for example. In some cases, Ultimate had the support of other North American sports leagues, such as the NBA (basketball) and MLB (baseball).
