Francis Carmont said he was comfortable with the underdog role on the eve of his fight against Ronaldo Jacare, which will be the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 36, in Jaraguá do Sul, Santa Catarina.
The Frenchman, eighth in the official UFC rankings, will face third place, who comes from two undisputed victories within the organization. Despite also being undefeated within the UFC, Carmont is behind on the betting markets, which is something he is happy about.
“For me, it doesn’t bother me to be the underdog. I always performed better when people wrote me off. In fact, I'm very happy to fight in this position”, he commented, in an interview with the Canadian newspaper Toronto Sun.
Furthermore, Carmont says he sees no problems in holding the fight in his opponent's home country. “I know that Jacaré will have the fans behind him, but it doesn’t make any difference to me. I just have to impose my strategy and not allow him to impose his. I have to do what I’m good at and what I’m best at,” he declared.
The main fight of UFC Fight Night 36, this Saturday (15), will be between Lyoto Machida e Gegard Mousasi, also fighters in the middleweight division.
