The most recent title defense by Jon Jones It was a milestone in his career in the UFC. In addition to breaking the absolute record for successful defenses in the light heavyweight division, with six, the American stated that the fight made him change the way he viewed his career from then on.
Contra Alexander Gustafson, at UFC 165, in September, Jones suffered a harsh punishment, something unprecedented in his MMA career. However, after five rounds of intense contention, he was named the winner of the fight. In an interview with the North American radio “106.7 The Fan”, Jones said that the difficulties faced in the fight with the Swede made him even better.
“My last fight was very tough. I only won in the decision. I became more humble, and that is something that makes me even stronger. It's a scary thing for my opponents. Now, I’m taking my job more seriously than ever,” commented Jones, whose next defense will be against Glover Teixeira, in April.
The light heavyweight champion highlighted the Brazilian's qualities and said he was impressed with his last performance, against Ryan bader. At the time, Glover felt his opponent's blows, but managed to reverse the situation and knock out the American.
“I have to be aware and respect it. In Glover's last fight, everyone saw what happened. He was losing, with his back to the railing, protecting his face, almost in the fetal position. So, he saw an opening, struck and got the knockout, which is extremely impressive. So yeah, Glover is a guy I will respect tremendously. He has knockout power in both of his hands. It will be a very exciting fight to watch”, promised the champion.
The fight between Jones and Teixeira will headline UFC 172 on April 26th. The fight will take place in the city of Baltimore, in the US state of Maryland.
