Patricky Pitbull vents after losing his belt to Khabib's cousin, but says: 'It's not all that'

Overcome by Usman Nurmagomedov in title defense at Bellator 288, Brazilian talks about the stumble

Days after being overcome by Usman Nurmagomedov, Patricky Pitbull vented about the setback that led to the loss of the lightweight title (up to 70,3kg.) in the Bellator 288. Exclusively to SUPER FIGHTS, the Brazilian spoke openly about the stumble on November 28th. At the time, Khabib's cousin occupied the absolute top of the division at 24 years old.

No Bellator 288, Pitbull took to the circular cage in search of his first title defense. The Brazilian, however, was unable to repeat the good performances that took him to the throne of the group.

Sincere vent

Just over a week after being dethroned from Bellator, Patricky didn't hide. The athlete opened up about what he feels without the company title.

“The mind is very active, with strategy, all the pressure. Everything we tried to apply in the fight and planned is still very fresh in our memory. It takes about two weeks to get the ideas in your head. In victory or defeat, that’s who I am,” said Pitbull.

Performance criticism

Dominated by his opponent throughout most of the five rounds played, Patricky did not hide his disappointment at not being able to impose his strategy against the Russian. The athlete thus regrets the factor that determined the opponent's victory.

“When I got out of the cage, I already knew what I had done wrong, what I hadn't been able to apply. I only watched the match once. It was exactly what I imagined would have happened. I couldn't do practically anything. I ended up overestimating the guy too much. I expected too much of an attitude from him, but he kept his distance, shooting, moving well. It was a smart strategy and he managed to apply it. I couldn't do mine. I was very conservative,” he admitted.

What would you do differently?

Confident that there could be a different result in a possible rematch, Patricky spoke about the change in stance. The athlete indicated what would change in a new confrontation.

“I should start the fight, just like it was in the fifth round. You don't have to respect anything. I felt that (Usman) is not all that he was imagined to be. I even thought the kicks were stronger. That’s what made me be more cautious during the fight”, he concluded.

Athlete's history

At 36, Patricky Pitbull has 35 commitments as a professional in MMA. Today, the Brazilian boasts a record of 24 victories and 11 setbacks in his career.
