According to the “UFC Tonight” program, broadcast by the North American television channel Fox Sports, the UFC plans to escalate Rodrigo Minotauro to face Roy Nelson upon the organization's return to Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, possibly in May.
The Brazilian fighter, who is coming off a defeat to Fabricio Werdum, has already publicly expressed his desire to face Nelson upon his return. Minotauro underwent surgery after injuring his arm in the fight against Werdum, in which he was submitted, and was planning his next fight in the first half of the year.
Nelson, nicknamed “Big Country”, is also not going through a good time within the UFC, as he was defeated in his last two fights, against Daniel Cormier e Stipe Miocic.
This week, Dana White, president of the UFC, revealed that the organization plans to visit the capital of the United Arab Emirates again in 2014. It would be the first time in the city since 2010, when UFC 112 was held, which had Anderson Silva against Demian Maia and BJ Penn vs. Frankie Edgar.
