Chad Mendes, former challenger of José Aldo for the UFC featherweight title, believes that the Brazilian will prevail in his next defense, against Ricardo Lamas, at UFC 169.
This Saturday (February 1st), in New Jersey, in the United States, Aldo will put his belt on the line for the sixth time. Mendes, who lost to the Brazilian in early 2012, praised his former tormentor highly and said he doesn't think the title will change hands.
"I believe that José Aldo it will end with victory”, said the North American, in an interview with the official UFC website. “Honestly, I don’t think Aldo has many weaknesses. Your wrestling It was probably his biggest weakness in the past, but he has improved a lot in that sense”, he pointed out.
However, Mendes indicated that the fracture that Aldo suffered in his last fight, against Chan sung jung, may interfere with your performance. “I'm curious to see how he will fight coming off a broken foot. Will he hesitate to throw those extremely dangerous low kicks? Furthermore, managing his weight will be a challenge for him. When you have a foot injury, it is difficult to train in the same way as in the past”, he considered.
Still, “Money”, as he is known, stated that Lamas is not a challenger who should be underestimated. “My teammate Danny Castillo has fought Lamas and told me he's one of the toughest guys he's ever faced. That means a lot coming from Danny. O ground and pound de Ricardo is your best bet for victory. We’ve already seen how athletic José is, so it will be difficult to take him down,” he assessed.
Mendes bets that teammate Faber “will shock the world” against Barão
Se Chad Mendes bet that Aldo will keep his belt, the same is not said in relation to the other Brazilian who will put his title on the line next Saturday. Renan Barao will face Urijah faber in the main fight of the night at UFC 169, repeating the fight that already took place in 2012 – with the Brazilian winning.
Mendes, Faber's training partner, is confident that his friend will be better prepared and that the new fight will be nothing like what happened two years ago. “I think he will shock the world. The fact that he broke a rib in his last fight against Barão prevented him from being aggressive. I think it will be a completely different fight,” he predicted.
