Next Saturday (February 1st), José Aldo will be able to fight his last fight in the UFC featherweight division. The organization's president, Dana White, confirmed that he is considering the possibility of Aldo moving up to lightweight and facing the current weight champion, Anthony Pettis.

The Brazilian has been dominating the 66 kg category for years, and will defend his sixth belt against Ricardo Lamas at UFC 169. If he wins, Aldo will be able to fight at 70 kg. Furthermore, the lack of challengers in the lightweight division should result in the Nova União fighter going directly to a title fight.

White detailed his plans in an interview with North American broadcaster Fox Sports. “I agree that José Aldo He's already done everything he could at featherweight. And for him, making weight is difficult. It wouldn't be a bad idea when Pettis returns to have him face Aldo. We were going to do it at Aldo’s weight, but if he wins this weekend, moving up in weight wouldn’t be a bad idea,” he said.

Pettis is currently out of action due to knee surgery. He is expected to return in the second half of 2014, which would coincide with a possible next Aldo fight.

As White said, the UFC even scheduled a fight between Aldo and Pettis in 2013. The fight would be in the featherweight category and would be worth the Brazilian's belt, but the American was unable to participate due to an injury. He was replaced by Chag Sung Jung, the Korean zombie, who lost to Aldo via technical knockout.
