Anderson reinforces his desire to return to fights against Roy Jones Jr in boxing

Brazilian expects not to be able to fight MMA in the near future, but denies he will retire

While recovering from injuries suffered in the main fight of UFC 168, Anderson Silva participated, this Wednesday (22), in a chat with your fans through Facebook. Among the topics covered, the former middleweight champion reinforced his desire to return to action in a boxing match, against Roy Jones Jr, former world champion in several weight categories.

On December 28, 2013, Anderson was trying to regain his UFC belt in a rematch against Chris Weidman. However, in the second round, he fractured his leg after having a shot blocked by his rival, which leaves him out of action for an indefinite period of time.

Anderson believes that, even when he recovers from his injuries, he still won't be 100% ready to compete in MMA fights. Therefore, he revealed that a boxing fight is within his plans. “When I get better, that's my biggest goal, especially because I won't be able to fight MMA anytime soon. Boxing is in my plans as soon as I can compete again. And Roy is a great idol”, he highlighted.

Even though he is 38 years old, Anderson denied that he thought about retirement after what happened. “I'm 100% sure I'll come back, but it's not something that depends only on me. The doctors are monitoring my recovery and, so far, everything is going positively. But I need their approval to return”, said “Spider”, who said he was motivated to make a fresh start in the UFC.

“I can’t see myself doing anything else, at least for now. Not only fight, but also train. I'm happy to wake up every day seeing that I'm perfect, that I can run, train. This situation has helped me to value these special and simple moments”, he said.

Even though his family is publicly in favor of his retirement from fighting, Anderson said that the decision to stop fighting will come from himself. “I respect and understand their concern, but it is something that has to come from my heart. This is something that is not in the plans. I'm focused on my recovery, but I want to return as soon as possible”, concluded the fighter.
