Apparently, the long-awaited fight between José Aldo and Acelino Popó will not happen in the near future. The 'People's Champion', who was present at the UFC Las Vegas 64 last Saturday (5), declared that there is no negotiation for a confrontation and claimed a current contract with Dana White's organization, although he has already announced his retirement from MMA.

“Both Acelino and the fans always asked me about it. But now, it can't happen. Everything I do, I owe it to the UFC and they say 'yes'. I still have a contract with them. It depends on that and it depends on values, too. No one has ever come and said: 'I give you so much to fight for'. These are speculations”, said Aldo, in an interview with 'Combat'.

Still on Ultimate, José hopes to soon become a member of the 'Hall of Fame', where the most important personalities in the world of MMA are honored. He also revealed that there is the possibility of joining the select list during the UFC 283, which takes place in Rio de Janeiro, on January 21st.

“They always talk about it. I think it could happen at UFC Rio. They asked to do one more fight there, but I think everything I could do, I did. My life is different now. I want to enjoy another sport”, concluded the fighter.

The controversy began after Popó's presentation against Whindersson Nunes, in January this year. With a good performance, the four-time champion indicated his desire to continue in the sport and asked for a confrontation against José Aldo, as I would like to face another name with an impact on the sport.

The response, however, was not what was expected. The 'People's Champion', who ended his contract with the UFC and announced his retirement from MMA, fired at Acelino for failing to knock out the comedian and, since then, Popó has criticized his compatriot. The two athletes do not have fights scheduled.
