If the year 2013 did not end well for Brazilian fighters in Ultimate with the serious injury of Anderson Silva, 2014 also started with a setback. Bantamweight Leandro 'Brodinho' Issa debuted in the octagon, being erased with a triangle applied by Russel Doane in the second round of the first fight at UFC Fight Night 34, an event held this Saturday morning (Brasília time), in Singapore.
The fight
A specialist in ground fighting, Brodinho tried to take the fight to the ground in his first moves, but the North American avoided being kept down and landed good blows in his striking against the Brazilian. After delivering another blow, Doane was the one who took the fight to the ground. The Brazilian managed to escape a rear-naked choke and attempted a triangle before the end of the round.
In the second round, Rusell Doane ended the fight in a sensational way. After taking down Leandro, the American landed several elbows from above. Visibly tired, Brodinho had the strength to escape a kimura, but, in the sweep, he entered straight into his opponent's triangle. The Brazilian didn't give up, refused to give the three taps, and fell unconscious in the octagon.
