After suffering two consecutive defeats for the first time in his career, Mauritius Shogun found himself amidst speculation about retirement or even a change of category if he lost to James Te Huna at UFC Fight Night 33. After an impressive knockout over the New Zealander, Shogun found his winning ways again and dispelled rumors about the end of his career . Now, the Curitiba native has put an end to doubts about his future in the light heavyweight division and denied that he will move down to middleweight.

“I'm staying at light heavyweight. He doesn't have the slightest chance of going down to the middleweights. I spoke to my team after the fight (against Te Huna) and they said I shouldn't move down a category. So I won't. I remain as a light heavyweight,” said Shogun, in an interview with the “MMA Fighting” website.

The Brazilian justified the option of remaining in the 93 kg category. “The light heavyweight division is the toughest. I won two titles in this category, so I'm adapted to it. My dream is to win the title again, but I'm just thinking about my next fight”, said Shogun, who is already thinking about a likely name for his next fight. “My next fight could be against Minotouro. He’s been doing great recently, so this fight could happen.”
