Joseph Benavidez has not yet assimilated the devastating defeat suffered by Demetrious Johnson at UFC on Fox 9, on December 14th. Competing in Sacramento, where he lives, for the flyweight belt, the athlete from the Alpha Male gym was knocked out in the first round, just over two minutes into the fight.

In an interview with the North American website MMA Junkie, Benavidez did not hide his frustration at the outcome of the fight. “I'm confused by what happened. I couldn't give my best against the best fighter in the world in front of millions of people. They don't know how well I could have done. I know I would have a great performance”, lamented the fighter.

Precisely because it was a quick fight, Benavidez stated that there is no way to even view the experience as a learning experience. “That's the bad part. A defeat is a defeat. Winning the world title would have been incredible. Defeats happen, but there is nothing to learn from that fight. I know how not to get hit in the face. There is nothing to take away from that fight,” he said.

Frustrated, Benavidez hopes to redeem himself in his next UFC fight. “I want to recover, forget, look to the future. I know there are good things to come. I had some achievements, but I’m not satisfied.”
