During a visit to Paris, Lyoto Machida took the opportunity to pay a visit to Paris St. Germain, the French club where the Brazilians play Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Alex, Maxwell and Lucas. At the team's facilities, Lyoto met with his compatriot Maxwell and Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The “Dragon” was presented with a PSG shirt and recorded the moment on his official profile. “At Paris Saint German (sic) with Maxwell and Slatan (sic) Ibrahimovic!”, wrote the former light heavyweight champion, who got confused in the spelling of the name of the team and the Swedish striker. Ibrahimovic, in fact, is a big fan of martial arts. A black belt in taekwondo, Ibra usually practices with his teammates since his time at Milan. In celebration of the Milan team's 18th Italian title, the Swede delivered a high kick to Cassano's head while he was giving a television interview. The joke, however, does not seem to have been well accepted by the Italian striker, who was left without reaction after the incident.

The fight, valid in the middleweight category, is the main event of UFC Fight Night 36, which takes place in the city of Jaraguá do Sul (SC). The co-main fight of the night pits two fighters face to face top-10 of the division up to 84 kg: the Brazilian Ronaldo Jacare and the Frenchman Francis Carmont.
