Giovanni Diniz defends lightweight belt and Gogó wins light heavyweight title at WOCS 32

In farewell to the event in 2013, good fights marked the edition held at the Hebraica gymnasium, in Rio de Janeiro

Giovanni DinizIn the middle of Friday the 13th, WOCS closed 2013 in style. The 32nd edition of the show, held at the Hebraica gymnasium, in Rio de Janeiro, crowned Giovanni Diniz, who maintained his lightweight title (up to 70kg), and Arthur Gogó, new light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg).

Diniz keeps belt in 'fight of the night' 

In the duel valid for the lightweight title, Giovanni Diniz and Lucas Bob Esponja staged the best duel of the night, marked by twists and turns and a lot of enthusiasm from both athletes. Diniz, owner of the belt, started better, improving his boxing and cornering his opponent. And, aware of the difficulties, SpongeBob tried to take the fight to the ground and narrowly missed out, landing a rear-naked choke in the second round. However, based on race, the Nova União athlete escaped and took the decision to the third round.

The UFC featherweight champion, in keeping with his explosive style, advised: “Heart, put your heart into the fight.” And, in response to his partner's request, Diniz entered the partial match convinced of victory and was better in the decisive round, having his arm raised after a unanimous decision by the side judges.

“I thank everyone for the strength I received from the stands. I'm very happy to keep my title after such a tough fight like this”, celebrated the champion.

Gogó makes his dream come true and wins the light heavyweight title

After being surprised at the weigh-in, the meeting between Arthur Gogó and Armando Sapinho, valid for the light heavyweight belt, was surrounded by much expectation. Six years younger than his opponent, Sapinho immediately took the initiative. However, with his experience, Gogó didn't let it go and put all his technique into practice.

With sharp jiu-jitsu, Gogó nullified the BTT athlete's attacks and confirmed the victory, and the title only in the third half, after managing to score important points for the judges to give him the triumph by unanimous decision.

“Before I couldn't fight Francimar Bodão (who handed over the belt after signing with the UFC) for the belt, but now I got this title and whoever wants to take it from me will have to work hard”, he shouted.

With the support of the fans, Jabba surpasses Baixinho

The gym was buzzing when Alexandre Baixinho and Julian Jabbá took to the cage. With exciting fans for both, the fight could not have been anything other than exciting. Baixinho, who has already competed in the UFC octagon, started the fight by exploiting his low kicks, but his strategy was soon deciphered by Jabbá, who tried to prevent his opponent's attacks.

A wrestling specialist and student of Marcio Cromado, at RFT, Julian used his entire grappling game arsenal to get the better of the balanced duel. The triumph was through a split decision by the side judges.
