Shortly after the announcement that Georges St Pierre will step away from fighting for an indefinite period of time, the UFC has already announced its plans for the future of the welterweight division.
At UFC 171, which will take place on March 15, 2014 in Dallas, United States, John hendricks will face Robbie Lawler for the category's vacant belt. The two Americans last performed at the same event, UFC 167, in November. At the time, Lawler hit Rory McDonald in the judges' decision, while Hendricks was controversially defeated by St. Pierre also on points.
Hendricks, 30 years old, has a record of 15 wins and two losses (in addition to St. Pierre, he also lost to Rick Story in 2010). Lawler, a UFC veteran, has 22 wins and nine losses. Since returning to the welterweight division, “Ruthless” has won three victories, against Josh koscheck, Bobby Voelker and MacDonald.
