UFC president Dana White assured that Vitor belfort will be the next challenger for the middleweight belt and will face the winner of the rematch between Anderson Silva e Chris Weidman.
Since he had his opportunity to compete for the under-84 kg title in 2011, when he was knocked out by Anderson, Belfort has remained undefeated at the weight, winning all four of his fights (against Yoshihiro Akiyama, Anthony Johnson, Michael Bisping e Luke Rockhold) by knockout or submission. Furthermore, the Rio native is coming off a spectacular victory over Dan Henderson in a fight held in the light heavyweight category.
In an interview with the North American channel Fox Sports, White confirmed that Belfort is next in line. “Ed Soares [businessman Anderson Silva] said that Anderson thinks Vitor deserves another chance. The next fight will be against Vitor belfort. If Anderson doesn't win, then it will be Chris Weidman against Vitor”, he said.
Chris Weidman e Anderson Silva will face each other again on December 28th, in the main fight of UFC 168.
