Considered one of the biggest stars in recent UFC history, Israel adesanya he opened up about his worst moment in his professional MMA career. Instead of pointing out his first setback in the sport, suffered in 2021 in the face of Jan Blachowicz, the Nigerian surprised by suggesting another confrontation as the 'biggest mistake' in the sport. For the middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg), the clash against Yoel romero marks the lowest point in their performances.

“If I’m being honest, the fight against (Yoel) Romero (is the lowest point). In that fight, it was the first moment when the public said: 'how boring'. He (Romero) had another confrontation after facing me and did the same thing. Smart people think, 'Israel was right. Romero is doing the same thing.' He knew that if he made a mistake against me, I would catch him,” Adesanya said, on his YouTube channel. YouTube.

In the confrontation against Romero, Adesanya was looking for his first title defense. Even though he surpassed the veteran on points, the clash was marked by a lack of combativeness throughout five rounds.

Middleweight champion since 2019, the Nigerian has been the target of criticism from fans and the specialized press. In his last commitments, the athlete went through monotonous clashes, beating his challengers (Marvin vettori, Robert whittaker e Jared Cannonier) in the judges' decision.
