After scheduling and cancellations, Ultimate finally made the fight between the North American Jon Jones and the Brazilian Glover Teixeira, valid for the light heavyweight belt. Franchise president Dana White revealed that the duel will take place at UFC 171, March 15, in Dallas.

The fight between Glover and Jones was initially scheduled for UFC 169, on February 2nd. But as the champion was recovering from an injury, the duel was postponed. Afterwards, Dana White himself revealed that the fight would take place at UFC 170, on February 22nd. However, the champion again asked for more time to recover. Now, after two cancellations, the light heavyweight title fight has been made official.

Jones has a record of 19 wins and just one loss, by disqualification, in his career. Jones is currently the record holder for title defenses in the light heavyweight category.
