Gesias Cavalcante disputes the WSOF lightweight belt in January

Gesias Cavalcante, from Rio de Janeiro, could become the first Brazilian to hold a world championship belt. World Series of Fighting, one of the UFC's main rival organizations in the United States. The event confirmed Gesias as an opponent of Justin gaethje at WSOF 8 for the inaugural lightweight belt. The fight night is scheduled for January 18, 2014, in Hollywood, Florida (USA).

In March of this year, Gaethje was responsible for Gesias' only defeat to date in the World Series of Fighting. The fight ended in an unusual way, when, after just over two minutes of fighting, the doctor declared the Brazilian unable to continue in the fight due to a cut on his head. Five months later, Cavalcante bounced back by beating Tyson Griffin at WSOF 4.
