Before Luke Rockhold, UFC 278, the brazilian Paulo borrachinha will try to get out of the bad phase he is in and dream again of an opportunity to compete again for the middleweight belt (up to 83,9kg). To reach the first title fight, against the still champion Israel adesanya, the Brazilian athlete had to go through a 'war' against the veteran Yoel romero, in August 2019. Paulo borrachinha e Yoel romero they faced each other on the main card of UFC 241, which took place at the Honda Center, in Anaheim, California (USA). With four fights in the company and still undefeated in his career, the Brazilian had been standing out in the middleweight division, winning all of his victories through knockouts in the first or second round. The title fight was a matter of time for the athlete from Minas Gerais.
Former interim champion, Romero was coming off a defeat to Robert whittaker and in his previous fight, he had his belt taken away, even with the victory over Robert whittaker, after failing to fulfill his obligations with the scales, at the UFC 221 weigh-in.
Inside the octagon, Borrachinha and Romero delivered 15 minutes of a true battle, which ended with the Brazilian's victory via unanimous decision by the judges. With the triumph, the fighter from Minas Gerais got his dream middleweight title fight against the Nigerian Israel adesanya.
