In an interview with Daniel Cormier, Alexander Volkanovsky stated that he will offer to serve as a “reserve” for the title fight between Charles of the Bronx e Islam makhachev, scheduled for October 22nd, in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates.

“I want to go back soon. I'm actually thinking, believe it or not, I'm thinking…because I'm still training. If they need a backup fighter, I'll be the guy. I'll be the guy who will be there. I'll tell them that I want to be there, I'll be the reserve. I'll be fit enough, I'll have a good enough camp to keep me in good shape. I will do this. That’s the kind of guy I am,” said the champion.

Alexander Volkanovsky has already defended the featherweight title on two occasions in 2022, the last of which was at the beginning of July, when he dominated Max Holloway in a trilogy against the former champion‍. Taking time to rest is not part of the Australian's plans, as he intends to stay active so as not to waste any opportunities.

“As I always say, I will make sure no one gets this opportunity before me. If someone catches it, I'll have to wait even longer. I do not like it. I'm happy to wait here. If someone gets hurt, doesn't make weight or something like that, I'll go in there”, he concluded.
