The marking of the fight between Patrick Pitbull e Adam Borics surprised MMA fans who were expecting a trilogy between the current featherweight champion (up to 65,7kg) and his new rival. However, the North American blamed the Brazilian for not having the third fight and said that, as he will not fight again for the belt against the Brazilian athlete, he preferred to move up to the lightweight division (up to 70,3kg).

“Bellator pretty much said, 'No, you're not going to get a title fight.' So I said, 'Okay, if I'm not getting a title fight, then I don't fight in the featherweight division. Before that, I was already looking to move up to the lightweight division. I believe it was about a month and a half or two months ago when I said, 'No title fight? Alright, cool. So I'm going to lightweight,'” McKee said.
The North American blamed Patrício for not holding the third duel and accused him of not asking the organization for the confrontation.
“This is all bullshit, bro. You are the champion. Do you understand the power in being the champion? No, he doesn't understand. That's why he's not the champion. I'm the real champion, bro. If you are the champion, you make the decisions. You ask for it: 'Hey, I'm the champion. I want to fight AJ McKee again.' It's that simple. You say, 'I'm not going to fight anyone else. I want to fight AJ McKee.' That's what I did. Did he think the first duel was a fluke? Alright, cool. We can fight again”, said AJ.
Now as a member of the lightweight division, A. J. McKee he knows that the category champion is Patricky, Patrício's brother, and revealed that he also wants to face him soon.
“I want to make this a family affair. I'm going to fight his brother (Patricky) now, no matter who's in line. I fought his brother and that's the next fight. I'm going to beat a 'Pitbull' again and I'm going to be a 'champion-champion'. That is my goal and my aspiration”, concluded the North American.

In his debut in the lightweight division, the prospect raised in Bellator will face former UFC Spike Carlyle.
