UFC president Dana White stated that negotiations for a rematch between Georges St Pierre e John hendricks are already advanced and the date of the new confrontation will be announced soon.
Last Saturday (16), at UFC 167, the Canadian retained the welterweight belt after beating his rival in a controversial decision by the judges. Even before there was speculation about a new fight between the two, St. Pierre declared that he planned to take a temporary break from fighting in order to resolve personal problems.
White, however, revealed to the North American newspaper The Los Angeles Times that conversations with GSP are ongoing. “As far as a rematch goes, I think we will have a date within the next few weeks. I am confident that Georges sees no objection and everything is on track”, said the director.
Hendricks' manager, Ted Erhardt, told the North American website MMA Fighting that he has not yet been approached to negotiate a new fight for the belt. “We haven't heard anything from the UFC, but I'm sure Hendricks' next fight will be a rematch, because Dana makes things happen. Anderson [Silva] said, after losing to [Chris] Weidman, that he would no longer fight for the belt, but soon after the rematch was scheduled”, he said.
