Since moving down to middleweight, Lyoto Machida is treated as a potential future belt challenger. This condition, however, could provoke a duel against the friend Anderson Silva, former division champion who is trying to regain the belt in December. Anderson has already stated that he would never face his compatriot. Lyoto, even though he stresses that he wouldn't like to fight Spider, doesn't seem so sure about that.

“I don’t want this fight. We are close and we have the same manager. He's fighting for the belt and I'm still a long way from that. It's hard to talk about it now. I don't know if our paths will ever cross. Let's let things happen and decide what to do. You have to be prepared to face the situation. We need to talk about this”, stated Lyoto, in an interview with the “Sherdog” website.

Before any attempt at the middleweight title, Lyoto Machida has another appointment in mind. On February 8, in Jaraguá do Sul (SC), Lyoto will take part in the main fight of UFC Fight Night 36 against Gegard Mousasi. Before, on December 28th, the “Dragon” supports his friend Anderson Silva, who is trying to regain the middleweight title against Chris Weidman, in the main fight of UFC 168.
