Featured in the UFC welterweight division (up to 77kg), Khamzat Shimaev has a theory about why Israel adesanya in the organization. Keeping an eye on the champion's performances in the under-83,9kg division, the Swede pointed out the supposed reason for the Nigerian's lackluster performance in his latest title defenses. In an interview with 'The MMA Hour', the Ultimate pupil gave his opinion.
“I don’t know what happened to him (Adesanya) last time (UFC 276, against Jared Cannonier). He was better in the previous fight (against Marvin vettori). Adesanya is driving imported cars, he has a lot of money. This makes a lot of people change. When you are hungry, you do exciting things. He was once like that. Now I do not know. He just does his job and wins the confrontations. He’s boring,” Khamzat said.
Middleweight champion since 2019 and owner of a unique technique in MMA, Israel has won three consecutive judges' decisions. Although he got past his opponents without any major scares, the Nigerian has been the target of criticism from fans and the specialized press.
With five title defenses, Adesanya already has a new opponent for his next commitment. The owner of the belt will be reunited with Alex Poatán, his executioner twice during his kickboxing days, in an event that does not yet have an official date.
