After a lot of complaints from his manager, Beneil Dariush finally had a fight scheduled in Ultimate. However, the lightweight (up to 70,3kg) was candid in admitting that he expected to face Islam makhachev, for the vacant belt in the category, and complained about not being better 'observed' by the big names in the division. The statement was made in an interview with 'MMA Junkie'.

“I don't know if I was expecting this (to face Mateusz gamrot), but I knew that if Charles (from the Bronx) waited for Conor (McGregor), they would do Islam (Makhachev) and me for the belt. I'm not too shocked by this. The good thing about going to Abu Dhabi is, let's say, if Islam or Charles doesn't show up, I would be the number one replacement,” Dariush said.
With seven consecutive victories in the organization, Beneil complained about not being 'respected' by the big names in the lightweight division, even though he had not suffered any defeat since March 2018.
“A guy like me, let's be honest: I'm not, like, a superstar. And the scariest thing about me is that I practically 'eat' stars, that's what I do. I 'eat' the star, and do not become a star. So it’s a little complicated”, concluded the lightweight.
At 33 years old, Beneil is enjoying a great moment in the organization and, if he wins Mateusz gamrot, could reach the top-5 of the lightweight division. The Iranian based in the United States has a record of 21 triumphs, four setbacks and one draw as a professional.
