“I'm very excited. I almost can't believe it's actually happening. He (Yan) is obviously the number 1 challenger at the moment. He's basically tied with aljamain sterling. He dominated Aljo in the first fight, but ended up dominated in the second. The way Petr hit José Aldo It was one of my favorite performances Petr yan. To go in there and face a guy like Petr is exciting, it's motivating and it's the biggest fight in the bantamweight division right now. I think it's bigger than Aljo versus Dillashaw,” said O'Malley while appearing on the “ESPN's DC &RC” podcast.

With seven wins, one fight without result and just one defeat since arriving in the UFC in 2017, Sean O'Malley was often questioned about the level of opponents he faced in his career in the octagon. Despite this, the North American guarantees that he has long considered himself ready to duel with the best in the division.

“I've been preparing for this for a long time. I've felt like I was capable of facing these guys for a long time, but I never had the opportunity. Pedro (Munhoz) was my first opponent in the top 10. In my opinion, I feel like I won that fight, I dominated, I wasn't hit once in the face or torso. I'm excited to get in there. It's going to be my first time being the underdog, which is really cool. I think it will be a very interesting fight. He says he is the master of boxing. I like to think I'm a very, very high level striker,” said the American.

“I believe I'm better than Petr at what we're going to do, which is fight. I'm better than Petr and I truly believe that. I'm going to go in there better prepared than Petr, I'm going to go in to do what I do. Obviously turning Petr's lights out would be amazing, but I just need to get in there and do my job. Three five-minute rounds. He's the best guy I've ever faced, without a doubt. I am very excited for the opportunity and I believe that on October 22nd I will be better than Petr”, he concluded.
