Dana White confirms Velasquez injury and denies holding UFC 172 in Mexico

The next title defense Cain Velazquez It shouldn't happen in April. This Tuesday (05), the Mexican website “Milenio” announced that it was practically agreed to hold UFC 172 in the country and that the main fight would be between Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum. Less than 24 hours later, however, Ultimate president Dana White denied promoting the event in Mexico, stating that the heavyweight champion was being treated for an injury.

“We didn’t offer anyone a fight on that card and Cain is injured right now and may need surgery. Obviously, we don't go to Mexico without Cain Velazquez”, said the director to the “Yahoo” portal. On the same website, Velasquez's manager Bob Cook stated that the athlete has already undergone an MRI and must undergo another exam, which will determine whether surgical intervention will be necessary on his left shoulder.

Last October 19th, Cain Velazquez the Brazilian beat Junior Gypsy for the second time, ending the trilogy against his rival and maintaining the Ultimate heavyweight belt. Shortly after the fight, it was announced that Fabricio Werdum would be next in line for the title fight. The date for this confrontation, however, remains uncertain, mainly due to the champion's recovery time.
