The Brazilian Lyoto Machida he cannot hide his joy at the good phase he has experienced since his move to middleweight. The former light heavyweight champion, who debuted with a lightning victory over Mark Muñoz in the new division, shows his excitement about the current situation in his responses. In Goiânia (GO), in conversation with the press after a question and answer session, Lyoto spoke, with great humor, about his next fight, against Gegard Mousasi in February 2014.
“Mousasi is a very tough guy, I've seen his fights and he's been champion in other events, but I'm only going to prepare more specifically for his game with four or five weeks to go before the fight. I don't want to space out my fights too much, because rhythm is very important to me. I want to feel good in this category, my place is here. He's in the UFC rankings, a little below me. Today I'm in fifth place. A victory over him, given the name he has already made, would consolidate me in the rankings and give me much more credibility. But if I lose this fight it will be complicated. I’m going to drop from fifth place to ‘fifth from hell’”, said Machida.
the duel between Lyoto Machida e Gegard Mousasi takes place on February 8, in Jaraguá do Sul (SC), at UFC Fight Night 35. If the time without fighting worries Lyoto, this must be an even bigger problem for his rival. Mousasi has not played since April this year, when he won Ilir Latifi in his Ultimate debut. In turn, Machida beat Mark Muñoz on October 26th and a few days after the duel his next fight was announced.
