The presence of Herbert and Gilbert, as cornermen, at this Saturday's event opens the door for fighters from the same family to put on Ultimate gloves

Featured in UFC Long Island, which takes place this Saturday (16), Herbert Burns will have, as usual, his brother and also an athlete from the company, Gilbert Durinho in the corner. With the successful partnership, the team at SUPER FIGHTS decided to 'open the trunk' and remember some close relatives who have already worn the organization's gloves.

Among the names that will be listed, there are those who achieved stardom in the company, and others who failed to reach 'gold'. Without further ado, let's get to the memories.

A year younger than Gilbert, Herbert Burns seeks to make history in the UFC featherweight division (up to 65,7kg). The athlete arrived at the organization in 2020 and currently has two devastating victories and one setback in the company. This weekend, the Niteroi native returns to the Octagon after almost two years of inactivity.

In Burns' corner, Durinho stands out in the organization's welterweight division (up to 77kg). Former challenger for the division's belt, the fighter is famous for always being active and delivering exciting clashes to the fans.

2) The 'Nogueira Brothers' twins

Considered a living legend in the history of MMA, Rodrigo Minotauro He enchanted sports fans in his more than 16-year career. A Pride icon, the heavyweight (up to 120,2 kg) also shone in the UFC, winning the interim belt in the group in 2008. Famous for delivering battles in his presentations, the athlete hung up his gloves in 2015.

Representative of the light heavyweights (up to 93kg.), Rogério Minotouro, in addition to MMA, he also shined in boxing. In 2007, the fighter won a bronze medal at the Pan American Games. Another star of the extinct Pride, the Brazilian marked an era with his historic fight with his compatriot Mauritius Shogun, in 2005. The fighter arrived in Ultimate in 2009 and, with the company, surpassed former champions such as Tito Ortiz e Rashad evans. The athlete retired in 2020.

Even in times of career instability, Anthony Pettis He was already considered one of the biggest stars in Ultimate. Former lightweight champion, the fighter gained notoriety in mixed martial arts for applying plastic strikes and his ability to surprise his opponents. 'Showtime''s career in the company ended in 2020. In 2021, the fighter transferred to the PFL and had a lackluster season. This year, the athlete is in the quarterfinals of the under-70,3kg division tournament.

Anthony's younger brother, Sergio Pettis arrived at Ultimate young and was unable to put together a convincing sequence of positive results. Even oscillating in the organization, the fighter faced tough names like Henry Cejudo, Joseph Benavidez e Jussier formiga. The 'run', however, was not enough to sustain the athlete in the organization. In 2020, the athlete migrated to Bellator and, from there, his career took off. After two victories in the bantamweight category (up to 61,2kg), the American competed for the category belt against Juan Archuleta and became group champion. Currently, the fighter has one title defense and remains at the top of the group.

4) The 'Diaz Brothers'

Controversial and charismatic in his own way, Nick Diaz built a successful career in MMA. Former Strikeforce champion, in the welterweight division (up to 77kg), the fighter arrived in the UFC in 2011. For the company, the 'bad boy' enjoyed his best moment in 2012 and 2013, when he competed for the interim and linear belt (respectively), but being defeated on both occasions. Without fighting between 2015 and 2021, the already veteran decided to resume his career but ended up disappointing in the confrontation against Robbie Lawler, being overcome by technical knockout. Currently, Nick admits that he intends to continue competing in the company.

Winner of 'The Ultimate Fighter 5', Nate diaz, today, is one of the athletes with the greatest engagement among North American fans. Nick's younger brother, the fighter became popular with fans for his laid-back style and aggressive way of conducting his fights. The athlete had a great time in the company in 2012, when he competed for the lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg) against Ben henderson, but ended up being overcome. Nate's star shone again in 2016, when the fighter accepted the challenge of facing Conor McGregor at the last minute and shocked the world by submitting the Irishman, causing the 'Notorious' first stumble in the company. Diaz also competed for the 'BMF' belt, given to 'Mais Casca-Grossa'. In the fight, however, he was severely outmatched by Jorge masvidal. Currently, the 'bad boy' is in his last commitment with the company and does not hide his desire to fulfill the contract and leave the organization as soon as possible.

5) The 'Shevchenko Sisters'

Female MMA legend, Valentina Shevchenko needs no introduction. Absolute in the flyweight division (up to 56,7kg) of Ultimate since 2018, the Kyrgyzstani has been collecting victims in the company for years. Today, the 34-year-old athlete has seven title defenses, being the record holder among women in the company.

Valentina's older sister, Antonina Shevchenko, 37, also works in the flyweight division of Ultimate. Kickboxing icon, with 39 wins and just one defeat in the sport, the fighter was unable to repeat the success of the sport in MMA. In the UFC since 2019, the fighter has a discreet record. According to the organization, there are eight commitments, with four positive and four negative results.

6) The 'Shamrock Brothers'

The first in the family to step into the UFC octagon, Ken Shamrock is one of those responsible for spreading the company to the world. The athlete, who competed in the organization when it adopted the tournament system, was the great champion between 1995 and 1996, losing the belt when he faced Dan Severn. After his time in Ultimate, the athlete worked for companies such as Pride and Cage Rage. His last commitment, already a veteran, took place in 2016, when he promoted a rematch with Royce gracie at Bellator. The fight, however, did not end well for the North American, who was knocked out in the first round.

Ken's younger brother, Frank Shamrock was the company's first light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg), conquering the throne in 1997. The athlete had four title defenses, but in 1999, he decided to give up the title and leave the company. After leaving Ultimate, Frank worked for companies such as WEC, where he also won the light heavyweight title, and Strikeforce, where he was also champion. Shamrock's last performance was in 2009, when he was knocked out by Nick Diaz.
