Last Monday (11), in a hearing held at the Santa Clara County Courthouse, in California (United States), judge Shelyna Brown denied, for the third time, bail to Cain Velazquez, arrested since February for attempted murder. The information was released by the North American website “MMA Junkie”, which had access to court documents.
Responsible for defending Cain Velazquez, Mark Geragos filed the new bail application. The lawyer argued that the fact that Harry Goularte, Patricia Goularte and Paul Bender chose not to testify in a civil action would represent a change of circumstances in the case against Velasquez. Furthermore, the former UFC heavyweight champion (up to 120,2 kg) was willing to pay US$ 1 million (approximately R$ 5,41 million) in bail and accept all the court's requests in order to be able to return to with your family.

Despite Geragos' arguments, Judge Shelyna Brown chose to uphold Cain Velazquez arrested, stating that the status of the witnesses would be irrelevant to the risk factor that she believes the former UFC champion presents.
“Both factually and legally, I think the court made a mistake,” lamented Geragos in a statement to “MMA Junkie” on Thursday (14).
Cain Velazquez was arrested in February after allegedly chasing and shooting a man accused of molesting a close relative. At the time, the former UFC champion allegedly hit his target's stepfather, who was in the same car.
If found guilty of attempted murder, Cain Velazquez faces a minimum sentence of 20 years in prison and could spend the rest of his life behind bars.
