June 26th is special for Fabricio Werdum and the athlete makes a point of remembering the date. On social media, the heavyweight icon celebrated 12 years since his epic victory against Fedor Emelianenko, back in the Strikeforce days. In the confrontation held in 2010, the gaucho submitted the MMA legend.
“The most important fight of my career. I defeated Fedor and jiu-jitsu became history. The party was big that day,” wrote Werdum, in his account on Instagram.

Considered by many to be the best heavyweight of all time in MMA, Emelianenko was having his second fight with Strikeforce gloves. The 'Last Emperor', who was coming off a knockout victory over Brett Rogers, ended up 'falling into the Brazilian's trap' and was finished with a triangle choke in the first round.
In the images released by Fabrício (see below), it is possible to see the historical outcome, as well as the effusive celebration of the Brazilian. With the triumph, the gaucho became the second athlete in the history of mixed martial arts to beat Emelianenko.
About five years later, Werdum would once again mark his time in MMA. In 2015, with UFC gloves, 'Vai Cavalo' overcame Cain Velazquez and unified the organization's heavyweight belt.
