Increasingly closer to the top of the heavyweight category, Daniel Cormier is already preparing his move to light heavyweight to avoid a confrontation with his friend Cain Velazquez, division champion. At the press conference after UFC 166, in which he won Roy Nelson, Cormier spoke about his situation and made plans for when he drops down a category.

“I wouldn't fight Cain (Velasquez). In the light heavyweight category, I want to be among the best. I want to fight with Jon Jones, with Gustafsson and against the highest ranked guys. When I was little and wanted a video game, my mother always said 'no'. Now, I can ask for a title fight against Jon Jones and Dana White can say 'no' too. If I insist, he might get fed up and say, 'Okay DC, now leave me alone,'” Cormier said.
