UFC 166: Hector Lombard runs over Marquardt on preliminary card

Cuban fighter, who debuted in the welterweight division, took no notice of his rival and won by knockout

Hector LombardThose who arrived early at the Toyota Center, in Houston, to watch UFC 166 were rewarded with great fights on the show's preliminary card. Fights ended before the final bell, knockouts and submissions dictated the opening of the show, which brings the end of the trilogy between junior gypsy e Cain Velazquez as the main attraction.

Highlight for the Cuban's debut Hector Lombard in the welterweight division. The former Bellator champion took no notice of Nate Nate Marquardt and sensationally knocked out his rival in the first round.

From the first moves, Lombard attacked Marquardt and connected several blows, which made his rival feel and try to defend himself by running around the octagon. But quick on the trigger, the Cuban put together another sequence and won by knockout at 1min48sec of the first round.

Eye defeats Kaufman

In the UFC 166 women's duel, better for the beauty Jessica Eye. In a balanced fight, the brunette achieved a narrow victory over Sarah Kaufman in a split decision from the judges.

Jessica, who is originally from the flyweight division, moved up a weight class to debut in the UFC. She started better, landing good punches in her striking.

In the following stages Kaufman, who is a former Strikeforce champion, recovered, balanced the fight and even dominated the fight in the final half.

Despite Kaufman's recovery, whoever left the Octagon with his arm raised was Jessica Eye, in the judges' split decision (29×28, 28×29, 29×28).

The first duels on the preliminary card were hot and fast. Adlan Amagov defeated TJ Waldburger via TKO, Tony Ferguson submitted Mike Rio with a hand triangle, both in the first round. Already André Fili erased by Jeremy Larsen and Kyoji Horiguchi took no notice of Dustin Pague in the second round.
