Alexander Martinez and Clay Collard did not discourage the MMA community who waited for the main fight of PFL #4 2022, an event held this Friday (17). In an exciting confrontation full of twists and turns, the Paraguayan took the advantage over the North American after three tight rounds and secured victory in the judges' split decision. The duel was valid for the lightweight tournament (up to 70,3kg).

With that, Martinez is in the semifinals and still dreams of the US$ 1 million prize (around R$ 5 million, at the current price). The Paraguayan now has ten triumphs and two setbacks in his career.

Collard, in turn, feels the 'bitter taste' of the tenth defeat in his career. A veteran of the sport, the North American has a record of 21 positive results and ten negative results. He did not qualify for the playoffs.

The fight

Collard easily entered the range of action and used boxing to connect hard blows to Martinez's face. The North American, however, saw the Paraguayan defending himself with jabs, direct shots and counterattacks at close range. With an aggressive style, Clay refused to go backwards and sought the takedown, but didn't even work on the position.

If it worked, Clay repeats it. Bold, the veteran had a nose bleed and, even so, continued with his main actions in striking. Martinez tried to get back at him, but felt a straight left and fell. The North American remained on top and landed strong punches, while the Paraguayan tried to pedal. Alexander was smart and took advantage of an opportunity to land on top, transitioning to a rear naked choke that almost weighed him down, but Collard resisted.

In the third and final round, Martinez bet on grappling and managed a takedown over Collard, who innovated with a somersault to get out of position. The veteran got back on his feet and got the takedown, in addition to making a guillotine defense from the Paraguayan. He chose not to progress on the ground and injured Alexander with a punch to the waist. The fight remained exciting and full of frank exchanges between the two athletes and, with Alexander intact, he attempted another takedown to continue until the end of the round.
