F. Werdum (photo) wants a rematch against Cigano at Arena do Grêmio
The Brazilian Junior Gypsy and the North American Cain Velazquez face each other next Saturday (19), in the main fight of UFC 166, for the organization's heavyweight belt. Outside the octagon, in a suit and tie, instead of shorts, and with a microphone in his hand, instead of gloves, he will be Fabricio Werdum. Announced as the next challenger for the title, the gaucho will comment on the trilogy on Fox Deportes, while taking the opportunity to analyze possible opponents.
His preference, already announced countless times, is to Junior Gypsy. Against his compatriot, Werdum suffered the only knockout of his career, in 2008, and has been looking forward to a rematch ever since, if possible on a stage never used in Brazil: a football stadium.
“I don’t hide from anyone that I want this rematch with Cigano. Now I'm in my best shape, different from 2008. My dream is for this match to be held at Arena do Grêmio, in Porto Alegre, because I've been tricolor since I was a child, I've been to the Olímpico a lot, I received tribute from the fans, and I want to give back . I think it would be the UFC's attendance record and I'm sure the crowd would be crazy”, proposes “Vai Cavalo”.
When UFC president Dana White announced the renewal of Fabricio Werdum for six more fights, he spared no praise for his current form and bet on good fights for the future of the heavyweight division. Since returning to the octagon, the gaucho has won Roy Nelson, in the judges' decision, Mike Russow, by technical knockout, and Rodrigo Minotauro, finally.
“It was great to know that Dana thinks like this, because it is precisely with this recognition in mind that I work very hard every day. I already knew about the renewal, but he asked me not to say anything about it. My work at UFC is broad, as in addition to being a fighter, I am also a commentator and ambassador. It’s a pleasure to be in this organization,” he highlights.
