The controversy surrounding Rousimar “Toquinho” Palhares' submission over Mike Pierce, which resulted in the Brazilian being fired by the UFC for holding the position for too long, is far from over. This time, Pierce himself came forward to give his version of what happened. The North American stated that he felt cracking noises in his joints after hitting to give up.
“I heard pops a few times. Once on my ankle and once on my knee, but the MRI will be the determining factor (to determine the degree of the injury). I felt them after the referee was on top of us and I was hitting him. So, it was long after I gave up”, said Pierce, in an interview with the “MMA Fighting” website.
Toquinho's opponent also criticized his opponent's attitude and agreed with his dismissal by Ultimate. “There was no need for him to do what he did, it was unnecessary. I was already giving up at that point, I knew I had been caught,” he stated. “Doing what he did was very unsportsmanlike and goes against the entire code of conduct that the UFC sets for us athletes,” concluded Pierce.

The “long time after” he gave up is an exact and timed 1,08″. Not wanting to defend Toquinho, but already defending, whoever fights knows that those 1,08″ extra in the heat of the moment and in that situation are nothing. A heel hook where two professional fighters of their level really should get injured but in my opinion they are bones of the trade, I believe that if Pierce doesn't want to get injured, he chose the wrong sport. Tennis or volleyball would be good!!!
Hmm… ballet!
