After overcoming Taila Santos No. UFC 275 and reach his seventh belt defense, Valentina Shevchenko claimed to have fought injured against the Brazilian. In a press conference after her victory, the flyweight champion (up to 56,7kg) revealed that she had been experiencing difficult moments just days before the clash against the Santa Catarina native. The problem happened in one of her feet.

“Days before the fight, I was injured. He had a foot injury. During the entire fight week, I went to the UFC Performance Institute. The physiotherapists were looking after my foot to try and get it into top shape. Some strong kicks hurt my foot. I wanted to do my little dance (a tradition after the Kyrgyzstani's triumphs). I need to have an x-ray, which could delay my return to the Octagon,” he said.

Last Saturday (11), Shevchenko had his biggest challenge in the flyweight division. Before Taila Santos, the champion was unable to deliver a dominant performance, as fans have become accustomed to seeing.

After five even rounds, the Kyrgyzstani was declared the winner. The triumph, however, came in a split decision from the judges.
