After quick victory, Alexander Volkov projects 'climbing' towards UFC belt

After knocking out Jairzinho Rozenstruik, the Russian wants to face fighters who are higher in the rankings in search of the heavyweight title

protagonist of UFC Las Vegas 56, event held last Saturday (4), Alexander Volkov is excited about resuming the heavyweight division (up to 120,2kg) after overcoming Jairzinho Rozenstruik in the first round. In a post-event press conference, the Russian reveals his desire to face fighters higher up in the rankings so that he can get the long-awaited opportunity to compete for the Ultimate title.

“Now, in the division, the champion (Francis Ngannou) is sidelined by a knee injury. We have some great fights in September and October with good fighters in the division. So let's see. I need to beat someone above me to get into a title fight. But, for sure, I'm back in contention (for a chance) and I was able to knock him out quickly”, analyzed Volkov.

Asked about possible names, Alexander reveals that he is not thinking about a specific athlete. Driven by challenges, the fighter is just waiting for a big name in the category.

“I like big challenges and I want challenges. I'm ready for any challenge, against any fighter and at any time. It doesn't matter. I believe that, now, I need some victories to reach the title and I want to achieve that”, he concluded.
