Bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling says he will change category if his teammate achieves another victory

Owner of the bantamweight belt, the 'Funk Master' revealed his plans to pave the way for Merab Dvalishvili to compete for the world title in the under-61,2kg category

Absolute bantamweight champion (up to 61,2kg), aljamain sterling surprised by assuming that he can change categories to help a teammate. In a statement on his Twitter, the 'Funk Master' praised his friend Merab Dvalishvili and stated that if he wins his next fight, he will move to another division to 'open paths' for the Georgian.

“After Merab’s (Dvalishivili) next victory, I will probably have to move up (a category), to allow him the chance he got, to make history for Georgia to win a world title. We’ll figure it out,” Sterling wrote.

The Georgian didn't take long to go to his Twitter to respond to the kindness of his friend and training partner.

"That guy (aljamain sterling) is gold!. I learn from him every day. I’m grateful to call you my brother!”, thanked Dvalishvili.

Number six in the bantamweight rankings, Merab is considered one of the biggest prospects in the entire division. Riding on seven straight victories, the Georgian has not been defeated since April 2018, when he was knocked out by Ricky Simon in the third round. Dvalishivili has a professional MMA record of 14 triumphs and four setbacks.
